Tillandsia fasciculata ‘Tropiflora’ doesn’t do subtle. This bold, sculptural hybrid (likely fasciculata × compressa) was originally collected in Jamaica over 40 years ago and has held its place as a true standout ever since. It forms a dramatic rosette of silvery-gray leaves that can reach up to 24 inches long—big, sturdy, and made to be seen.

When in bloom, it really goes for it: a thick central stalk rises high above the foliage, topped with up to 20 chunky, bright-red bracts that can each grow 8 inches long. The bloom holds its color for over a year, making it one of the most long-lasting bloomers in the Tillandsia world.

As it matures, you might notice a red blush on its leaves in bright light—a little bonus color to complement its already striking form. This one’s best left unpotted and mounted instead, where its size and shape can really shine (and where airflow can keep it happy). Big, bold, and long-lasting—‘Tropiflora’ is a collector’s favorite for a reason.
